Il contributo delle tecnologie digitali per la valorizzazione del patrimonio rupestre pugliese
2016
The essay concerns the recent work carried out as part of a multidisciplinary research on some rocky churches in the southern Apulia, conducted in collaboration with the Chair of History of Medieval Art of the University of Salento and of the University of Bari. The work aims at the knowledge and the monitoring of the fresco paintings inside three rocky environments, two of which are located in Lama d’Antico, in Fasano (BR), and the other two in Vaste di Poggiardo and Giurdignano (LE). The contribution illustrates methods and data acquired during the fieldwork, carried out through a multidisciplinary approach. From the image-based Techniques for the survey in Camera-Scanner to the restituti…

Indagini multidisciplinari e ricostruzione virtuale: il caso di studio del Teatro Nord di Hierapolis di Frigia (Turchia)
2018
The contribution concerns the multidisciplinary research conducted on the North Theatre of Hierapolis in Phrygia (south-western Turkey), built in the 2nd cent. AD and collapsed because of an earthquake in the third quarter of the 4th cent. AD. A systematic analysis and topographical survey of the remains of the Theatre were performed, and plan of the building was integrated into the digital archaeological map of the city. These data were combined with those from the geological study of the site (characterized by landslides) and from the geophysical prospecting (magnetometry and GPR) carried out in the area of the scaena and in the space between the Theatre and the North Agora. The integrati…
The contribution of AI to enhance understanding of Cultural Heritage.
2013
The Artificial Intelligence & Cultural Heritage (AI & CH) working group was born in 1999 with the aim at promoting various scientific activities to increase a more active collaboration between the sectors of cultural assets and artificial intelligence. The many events (workshops and schools) organized over the years have shown the validity of this group for exchanging ideas and gathering researchers and practitioners from different fields. New applications of informatics and artificial intelligence have provided the opportunity to produce innovative tools for documenting, managing and communicating cultural heritage. For this anniversary we intend to show how some of the most important meth…
The Virtual Reconstruction of the Aesculapius and Hygeia Statues from the Sanctuary of Isis in Lilybaeum: Methods and Tools for Ancient Sculptures’ E…
2022
Thanks to recent technological developments in 3D surveys, computer graphics and virtual reality, new scenarios have been opened for the documentation and enhancement of ancient sculptures. When not totally preserved, sculptures can be digitally reproduced, modified and visualized to simulate their physical or virtual reconstruction in a non-invasive way for specialists or for dissemination aims. The virtual sculptural reconstruction process starts usually from the 3D survey of real fragments, and then continues by integrating missing parts with 3D modelling techniques by means of source evaluation. Along with primary data sources (reality-based model), secondary data sources (photos, drawi…
Ricostruzioni digitali per lo studio degli spazi teatrali dall’età arcaica all’età imperiale: alcuni casi studio
2019
The contribution concerns digital reconstruction as a method for the study of theatrical spaces from the archaic age to the imperial age. ARCHEOLOGIA VIRTUALE A SEPPANNIBALE: LA RESTITUZIONE 3D DELLA CHIESA
2011
Virtual Reality applications, such as 3D modelling for exemple, has lately joined research, first with popular teaching role by realizing ideal reconstructions of monuments, cities, landscapes and so on, and only quite recently with the aim of increasing knowledge. Computer Graphics integrated methodologies represent, particularly in archaeology, architecture and field drawing, an update of traditional studies on ancient monuments.
